Claimed figures (US test method) and starting US prices, with sources on each model page. rpm at 70 mph in 6th is worked out from the published overall ratio of 2.79 and the rear tyre size, before tyre squash, so the real figure is a little higher. Check it in the Lab.
Engine
One Milwaukee-Eight 117, three states of tune
Every bike here has a 1,923 cc (117 cu in) 45-degree V-twin with a 103.5 mm (4.075 in) bore, a 114.3 mm (4.5 in) stroke and a 10.3:1 compression ratio. Harley-Davidson sells it in three versions with different claimed outputs:
| Version | Models | Power (claimed) | Torque (claimed) | BMEP at peak torque | Piston speed at peak power |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 117 Classic | Deadwood, Super Glide, Heritage Classic, Street Bob | 98 hp at 4,600 rpm | 120 lb-ft at 2,500 rpm | 10.6 bar (154 psi) | 17.5 m/s (3,450 ft/min) |
| 117 Custom | Breakout, Fat Boy | 103 hp at 4,800 rpm | 126 lb-ft at 3,000 rpm | 11.2 bar (162 psi) | 18.3 m/s (3,600 ft/min) |
| 117 High Output | Low Rider S, Low Rider ST | 114 hp at 5,000 rpm | 128 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm | 11.3 bar (165 psi) | 19.1 m/s (3,750 ft/min) |
The last two columns are worked out in the Lab from the claimed figures. Brake mean effective pressure (BMEP) is torque per unit of displacement, so it compares how hard each version works its cylinders regardless of size: the High Output makes only about 7 percent more peak torque than the Classic, but makes it 1,500 rpm higher, which is where its extra power comes from. Mean piston speed shows how hard the long 4.5-inch stroke is being revved. BMEP calculator · Piston speed calculator
Harley-Davidson’s US figures use a different test method from its European and Asia-Pacific figures, so the same engine is listed with different numbers in different markets (for example 91 hp and 156 N·m for the 117 Classic on the Asia-Pacific site). Compare like with like.
Gearing
Same drivetrain on every model
All eight have a six-speed gearbox, a 34/46 chain primary drive (1.353:1) and a 32/66 toothed belt final drive (2.063:1). Harley-Davidson publishes overall ratios of 9.311, 6.454, 4.793, 3.882, 3.307 and 2.79 for 1st to 6th, which means 6th gear is direct (1:1) and the overall top-gear ratio is simply primary times belt.
What differs between models is the rear tyre, and with it the road speed. A 180/70B16 (Low Rider S and ST) is about 2 percent taller than a 150/80B16 (Street Bob, Super Glide, Heritage Classic, Deadwood), so the Low Riders turn about 50 rpm less at 70 mph. Each model page has the full gear chart; the belt pulley calculator shows what a different pulley does to gearing and axle position.

Do all 2026 Harley-Davidson cruisers have the same engine?
Yes, all eight use the Milwaukee-Eight 117: 1,923 cc, 103.5 × 114.3 mm, 10.3:1 compression. It comes in three versions: the 117 Classic (98 hp, 120 lb-ft), the 117 Custom (103 hp, 126 lb-ft) and the 117 High Output (114 hp, 128 lb-ft), as rated by Harley-Davidson in the US.
What rpm does a Softail turn at 70 mph?
About 2,600 rpm in 6th on the 150/80B16 rear tyre, worked out from the 2.79 overall top-gear ratio and the tyre size. Under load the tyre rolls slightly shorter, so expect a little more on the tachometer. The cruising rpm calculator does it for any speed, tyre and pulley.
What is the final drive ratio on a 2026 Softail?
A 32-tooth front and 66-tooth rear belt pulley, 2.063:1, behind a 34/46 chain primary drive. Multiplied together with the direct 6th gear they give the published overall ratio of 2.79.
Why do Harley-Davidson specs differ between the US and Europe?
Power and torque are measured to different standards in different markets, and seat heights are quoted laden in the US and often unladen elsewhere. MotoWild shows the US figures and says which basis each figure uses.
Is MotoWild connected to Harley-Davidson?
No. MotoWild is independent and does not sell anything or earn commission. The data comes from Harley-Davidson’s published specifications and from dealers and reviewers, linked on each page.
